The 6 Best Galentine’s Day Brunches in London

Valentine’s day? A little passé. Galentine’s Day? Now we’re talking. Celebrating all things female friendship, Galentine’s Day takes place on 13th February, the day before Valentine’s Day. But unlike its romantic forebear, Galentine’s is a decidedly modern holiday. In fact, it was invented in a 2010 episode of Parks and Recreation in which Leslie Knope takes her gal pals out to Galentine’s Day brunch to celebrate their friendship.

Since its inception, Galentine’s Day has caught the public imagination. While not yet official enough to have cards in the supermarkets, more and more people are choosing to celebrate Galentine’s Day. There’s just something about showing your girls how much you love and appreciate them that’s really rewarding! Think of it like a platonic Valentine’s celebration for your closest friends.

In the second-season episode of Parks and Rec, Leslie Knope puts on a breakfast-style feast for her girlfriends. So, in keeping with tradition, here are our top picks for Galentine’s Day brunches in London! We’ve found places with specific Galentine’s menus as well as cute, Instagrammable spots for spending quality time with your besties – and of course, all the food is top-notch. Let’s begin!

1. Ballie Ballerson, Sat & Sun Galentine’s Brunch

Turn things up a notch with a VIP ticket, which comes with your own booth or table, as well as delicious pick ‘n’ mix-style cakes (yum!). Galentine’s Day falls during the venue’s annual Valentine’s brunch weekender, making it the ideal destination for your Galentine’s Sunday – and Ballie Ballerson is just a convenient 10-minute walk from Old Street station.

2. Hijingo, Weekend Bingo Brunch

How about two hours of booze, food and adrenaline-filled fun for you and the girls? Hijingo’s bingo brunch features bottomless Prosecco and beer, incredible brunch mains and of course, Hijingo bingo. With bright lights, video projections and banging music, this is definitely not your Nana’s bingo game. And that’s not even to mention the exceptional menu at Hijingo: miso-salted chicken and waffles, Japanese nutrition bowls and short rib benedict.

Take note that Hijingo bingo brunch is only on during the weekend afternoons, so don’t forget to reserve your spot ahead of Galentine’s Day! For those who haven’t yet had the neon-lit, multi-sensory pleasure, Hijingo is based in Shoreditch, just a short walk from Shoreditch High Street station (and close to Ballie Ballerson if you want to do a Shoreditch brunch-a-thon!).

As for drinks, consider trading Prosecco for one of EL&N’s iconic speciality lattes. Creative flavours include red velvet and Spanish pistachio (this writer’s personal favourite!). For your main dish, there’s a wide range of brunch options to choose from, including eggs benedict, shakshuka and honey French toast. And don’t forget dessert: cake, macarons, dulce de leche and gelato are all on the menu. What better way to celebrate the sweetest day of the year?
