Born out of a humble dining room micro bakery during lockdown, Sourdough Sophia embarked on a mission to revolutionize bread consumption in Britain. With queues snaking down the road from their cozy flat, the demand quickly outgrew the space. Thanks to the overwhelming support of nearly 600 backers from the local community, a successful Kickstarter campaign paved the way for the opening of their bakery doors in 2020, a mere 8 months after baking their first loaf.

At Sourdough Sophia, their ethos goes beyond crafting delicious loaves; it’s about making a positive impact on the environment. Recognizing the environmental toll of conventional wheat farming, they’ve made an ethical commitment to use sustainable flour across their entire range, consuming over a tonne of flour weekly. By championing sustainable practices, they aim to mitigate the damaging effects of industrial wheat production on soil health.

Their dedication to quality and sustainability has earned them recognition, including two world bread awards for their wholemeal loaf and focaccia, as well as three great taste awards for their N8 Loaf, wholemeal loaf, and house kimchi. Additionally, Sourdough Sophia was named a top five finalist for the UK high street shop of the year award.
